Three's Company

After baths

Isaac loving Olivia

Baby love!

Can we all fit on one cushion?

Dinosaur Museum

We went to the natural history museum with some friends to start off our summer fun! We plan on finding lots of ways to beat the heat this summer!

Growing Babies - Olivia

Olivia literally is the growing baby in our home. A teeny, tiny, growing baby. She had her four-month well visit yesterday and she is now 12 lbs 7 oz and 24 inches long. I think it's around the 25th percent for weight and 50th for height. To me, she is just my baby. But then I get around other babies, there are a few babies in our ward who are close to her age or just a month younger, but are several pounds heavier, and I realize she is a tiny, petite little thing.

At three months old she mastered the art of sucking her thumb, and since then has been sleeping blissfully through the night. Or that might be me, since she and Isaac started sleeping through the night at almost the same time. I am finally getting more than a couple hours of sleep at a time! And you know what, it is amazing! It's like a drug. I want more! Sleep is wonderful!

She reminds me of Eli as a baby in a lot of ways, her slender body and blue-blue eyes (though Eli's are green now), and she also has super strong legs. She pretty much jumps up and down on my lap whenever I try to burp her. And when she lays on her back on a blanket or her play mat she scoots all around. She even figured out rolling over the other day and did it several times in a row! She is so thin that most of her 3-6 month sized bottoms are loose on her, and I've found that she has kicked and scooted out of several bloomers and pants after her naps. She even has one pair of bloomers that slides right off when you hold her upright. She was wearing those on Sunday. At church. Funny!

I say she is clearly a girl because she talks so much more than my boys did as babies. Olivia seems to be very social and loves to smile and chat with us all. She adores Eli and is warming up more to Isaac now that he's learning to be more soft with her. He loves bringing her toys and her binky, and I think she loves it too! When she's in a really good mood (after she's had a nice nap and lots of food), she'll play with the toys on her play mat and talk and make high pitched happy squeals. Again, I love it. And I love her. I love having a daughter, and what a wonderful daughter she is. She's able to reach out and touch our faces now when we hold her, and smiles and coos when we talk to her.

You will probably hate me for saying this, Olivia, but you're not always the most lady-like little baby. There have been several prayers interrupted by loud passing of gas--burps or bottom. This has even happened a few times at church, during prayers, when it's the most quiet and I'm certain everyone in the Sunday School class could hear! But she's got big brothers so what do we expect? She's got to hold her own, I guess.

Growing Babies - Isaac

Isaac, sweet, funny, silly, tender little Isaac. Sometimes I get so worried that he's "the middle child" and he's not getting babied enough or paid attention to enough or whatever enough. But then I see his always smiling face and realize he is happy. He just is. He is happy with his life. He loves his big brother and little sister, and I don't think he would want a single thing to change. Except for when I try to feed him vegetables. He wouldn't mind if that changed.

I can't believe he is almost two, and this last year for him has really flown by for me. Being pregnant and having a baby will do that. Plus the lack of sleep. He is FINALLY sleeping through the night, and what a sleeping champ he is! He loves his bed and during the day will even ask me to put him down for his nap. He says, "Nigh-night?" Then points to his room. He grabs his binky and sometimes gets a bottle of water, and he's out for a long nap or for the night. We finally got him off the bottles of milk. After his 18 month well visit I said, "No more bottles!" He didn't like it for a day, then was fine getting only water. Now he only gets a bottle in his bed and only gets the binky in his bed. But he is sleeping though the night as of April, so I'm in no rush to take those away!

The one thing Isaac loves most in the world is his big brother Elijah. And he calls him Elijah too, not Eli. I love it. He wakes up and can't wait to see his brother, he follows Eli around, copying him and trying to be just like him. And he is always quick to help Eli feel better, offering hugs, sharing his food, pretty much anything he can to make Eli happy. Isaac truly has a sweet heart. Don't get me wrong, one of their favorite things to play together is wrestling. They are still boys after all. They just happen to really love each other too.

Isaac has done so well adjusting to Olivia. Really. He's amazing. The hardest part is that he sometimes loves her too much and doesn't know how much bigger than her he is. We are working on giving soft kisses and hugs next to her instead of sitting on her, but really he just wants to love her.

Now, that about that vegetable comment above. It's true. This kids loves sweets. And dairy. And really prefers dairy sweets. Yogurt, which he calls "oooo-ooo" is his particular favorite, but ice cream is just a s good. Anything beyond dairy or candy, which he will take any day, any time, is nearly impossible to get him to eat. Sometimes he surprises me and eats a plate full of blueberries or a serving of peas, but most days it all ends up on the floor for the "doggie! doggie!" His words.

Isaac talks a lot. I've been impressed with all the words he knows and how well he can communicate. One of our favorite games is to say, "Hey Isaac guess what?" and he grins widely and says, "What?!" Then I say, "I love you!" and he says, "And back?" and I say, "To the moon and back!" It's sweet and fun and depicts his personality perfectly.

Growing Babies - Elijah

Growing is what babies do best. In a way, it makes me sad to see my kids growing up, knowing these baby days will be gone all too soon. But at the same time, I so look forward to seeing the people they become. To having the house full of rowdy, crazy, fun, sweet, energetic pre-teens, teens, and beyond. No matter what stage we are in, life is good, and I am truly blessed.

Four-year-old Eli is not a baby anymore. He is very much a boy now. He looks like a boy, talks like a boy, and acts like a boy. And just recently has discovered girls. Yikes! He's got his first crush ever, Gracie, and followed it quickly with his second crush. His first crush is on a girl in our neighborhood and in his Sunbeam class, although he never noticed her until they did swim lessons together (because she was nice and she played "fishes" with him one day). Now she's mentioned in our house quite frequently. His second crush is Izzy from the Disney show Jake and the Neverland Pirates. He is quite taken by Izzy. It's so funny to hear him talk about these girls. He is just realizing girls are different than boys, and he seems to think they are funny and pretty. I think having a baby sister whom he absolutely adores has something to do with it too. Girls are cool. According to Eli boys like cool things. Not pretty things. Not cute things. Cool things. Girls like cute and pretty things. Girls are cute and pretty. But girls can be cool to, and that's why boys can like them. Got it?

Beyond girls, which I think is going to be Eli's focus for the next 20 years or until he gets married (Although he told me last night he's not ever getting married. This was in reference to a conversation about a different girl in his Sunbeam class who thinks she's going to marry him. He said, "I'm not getting married. I'm just a boy. I don't like married people.") Eli is a fun and sweet boy. He did swim lesson, private lessons at a neighbor's house this time, and he is swimming like a fish now! His love of cars is, somehow, ever stronger than it was before. He still loves everything about them and that is what he plays with all day. I try to get him to do crafts or read or do other things. If it doesn't involve playing cars (or watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates) he's not interested. When we're in the car, he tells me all about the cars he sees. "Oh, mom! Did you see that nice white BMW? It had really shiny wheels!" "Hey mom, look there's a Porsche!" (And he pronounces it 'por-sha' not 'porsh'.) One day he even gave me detailed instructions on how to drift. And I think he was pretty accurate on what to do!

Eli loves his family and loves being with us. He's coming out of his shell more, but is still shy in public or outside of our home. He always wants me to go with him to b-day parties or even to his Sunbeam class (but I don't, sorry kid!). He is also very aware of other people's feelings, especially his own family. He can tell when I'm having a bad day, or when Isaac gets in trouble, or when Daddy gets in trouble, and he immediately says, "Hey ____ (mommy, daddy, Isaac). Do you know I love you?" He is so kind and just wants us to feel better.

Cowboy

We went shopping at a cowboy store with my dad. All the kids loved it, especially Eli! We didn't get the hat, but somehow came home with a pair of boots. He was so excited he had to wear them out of the store and has been wearing them all day. Now he's just like grandpa! (Ignore his clothes, we had just come from his tumbling class.)

I think he's the cutest cowboy I've ever seen!
