Mouth of Babes 2013

1/14/2013
I got a rotisserie chicken for dinner. Eli loves chicken and excitedly watched me open the package.
Eli: Hey Mom, why does that chicken look like an animal?!
Me: Because it is an animal. It's a chicken.
Eli: But, why does chicken look like an animal.
Me: Because it is a chicken. You know, the bird? Like you saw on the farm and at grandma's house. That's what a chicken is. We eat it.
Eli: Oh, so do chickens make chicken? (We'd just been talking about how cows make milk.)
Me: (laughing) No. It's just the chicken's body. We eat it.
Eli: Oh. Ok.
A few minutes later Mike comes in to sit down at the table.
Eli: Hey Dad! Did you know we eat bird body!

(I really don't like eating meat on the bone, so we don't have whole chickens very often, or even drumsticks or anything but boneless chicken breast really.)

While sipping on a fruit smoothie Eli asks me if I know how to make a smoothie. Then he tells me how: "First you take some fruit and mash it up together. Then you put it in the microphone (he says, pointing at the microwave) and put it in the fridge and you have a smoothie. Now you know how to make a smoothie, so next year when you want to make one I can remember the words for you. Ok."

Eli talking about the different characters on Chuggington. "Mom, did you know Hodge is the oldest? He's really really old, like 14. That's really old. Or maybe 44."

I love the way kids think they hear things. Here are some fun words Eli says.
Eli says (Eli means)
Injury (energy)
Mini bank (piggy bank)
Dart (fart) we now call passing gas "throwing darts".
Apple slider (apple cider)

Baby Dreams

I had a dream last night about little Olivia that I want to remember, just to see if it's true. I've been having a lot of contractions lately, nothing painful, just uncomfortable. Mike and I were talking about whether we thought this little girl would come earlier than her February 11 scheduled C-section. Well, last night I woke up and was having a contraction, then fell back asleep thinking about how I woke up in the final stages of labor with Eli (boy was that crazy!). Then crazy pregnancy dreams ensued.

I dreamed I woke up the next morning and had Olivia during the night. She was so tiny because it's still so early, but she was healthy and just fine. As the dream progressed, she changed from the normal newborn look of dark hair, dark eyes, to looking like herself. She was fair skinned with a little spattering of freckles on her nose and checks, which I thought was amazing because I'd never seen a newborn with freckles before. She also had the most beautiful light eyes. They weren't blue and they weren't green, more of a mix, with a thin dark blue circle around the outside that really made them pop. So, that was it. The dream was interesting, but the most interesting part was to see what Olivia could look like. We shall see . . .
